A well-dressed sewing machine for my March challenge

So that nine-patch of circles minus one became what I originally intended:

a cover for my Juki sewing machine.

It took a little engineering, but it fits.

Here's the back where I made room for the thread stand

by removing one block, as shown in the previous post.

I used Kona Espresso for the backing and the binding, and

some off-white Kona for the background.

Thanks for the March challenge that pushed me to finish this!

Two challenges in one

I'm combining my solid and Lotta fabric challenge from August

with the March challenge of repurposing a UFO.

I cut the package of charms into circles and got this far last summer

but then stalled about what to do next.

I found the answer by unpicking one of the circle blocks.

Stay tuned for what happens next.

I'm liking where it's going, but I'm not quite ready to show you yet.

I Got To Thinking . . .

. . . before I start posting about the new challenge, I really should post what I made from the last one . . .

I used my Lotta fabrics to make a table runner.
After the fact, I realize that some of these fabrics don't work so well cut up in tiny pieces. I like my idea, I just wish I'd done something different with these fabrics. I may try this on a larger scale some other time with different smaller-scale fabrics or even solids (in bigger pieces). I think it'll work much better that way.

But, what's done is done, and I've moved on.

Seein' as how the first rule of the new game says: "Using Only SOLIDS . . . " and I didn't have enough solids in my stash to even shake a stick at, I had to order some. They got here Saturday, so I stayed up late last night after getting home to make my first original Card Tricks block.I had to sit in the hospital with my sister for the last few days (and I still have some more babysitting to do while she recuperates) so I've had plenty of time to play with my sketchbook, and I came up with a big idea for my Card Tricks blocks, so as soon as I get time in my studio, I'm gonna keep on going with this. More later . . .

Still going around in circles

I know there's another challenge underway, but I've been on summer schedule with my sewing (aka not much going on here) and so I'm still playing with the Lotta fabrics Victoria sent us.

I've pieced together this set of circles in a nine patch, which measures about 22 inches square.

I used up the other charms in four patches as well as some fancy circles too.

Now I'm wondering where to go next. These are a bit too big for pillows, but the wrong size for my sewing machine cover, which was the other plan.

Anyone have an idea for me?

Another thing: I'm having difficulty commenting on blogs lately, more than usual.

What Would You Do?

Am about to unpick the square box quilting I've done on two of my pillow tops.

Thought it would look like a repeat of the fabric row but that's not

how it comes off.

Have a look at the third pillow ready for quilting ... what would you do?

I have an idea and am wondering if anyone might have the same. Thanks!

More Play

Yesterday I played with my blocks & scraps & decided that instead of two-color blocks, some looked better with three colors ... so I fixed them. I also decided to make three 16" pillows instead of two 20". Late this afternoon the fabric came ... yippee! I cut one piece to see how they will most likely look (minus the fingerprint on my camera lense). I probably won't post again until all my belongings are packed & ready for the move. That doesn't mean I won't sneak in a little sewing for relaxation!

Designing My Blocks

I've decided to make two 20" pillows in length for my sofa. Each pillow will have 5 blocks made up of two of the prints. (In some instances it looks like I will have to piece the piecing to accomplish this.)

The blocks will be arranged horizontally but not in a straight line. I'm still waiting

for the solid I ordered.
